When Laura (@thehalloweencollector) and I go out together, I always want to make the most of our adventure. Over the last several years of going out Halloween hunting, I’ve learned there are a few items I need for a successful day of shopping.

A lot of them are obvious, like a comfy pair of shoes, while others are more practical, like a shopping bag. But let’s make them feel a little more like our spooky selves by putting a Halloween spin on them!

Below you’ll find my list of things I think you need, including three noted as must-have items for me and one that is 100% free.

This is also a great way to support spooky small businesses. Bookmark this post because when the big box store hunting season is over, you’ll still find each and every one of these creators selling their Halloween items all year long.

9 Things You Need for Halloween Hunting Season

MUST-HAVE: Comfy shoes

When you’re on your feet all day running in and out of your favorite stores, slowly wandering the aisles, and searching those chaotic shelves at HomeGoods for that one Halloween mug you saw on Instagram that you need, having a comfortable pair of shoes is a must.

Keds-style shoes (or Feds, for Fake Keds, as I call them if they’re not the name brand) have become my favorite in recent years, and I LOVE these Halloween ones! GET THEM HERE

MUST-HAVE: Tumbler for water

I’m one of those people: I never leave my house without a cup of ice water in tow. This is mostly self-preservation to keep me from getting a headache, but it comes in handy since prime shopping season overlaps with some of the hottest months in Texas.

And if I’m going to be taking water with me, why not make it spooky? These 20-ounce metal tumblers will keep your drink nice and cool, plus I love the variety of designs they come in. GET IT HERE

MUST-HAVE: Halloween shopping bag

Wouldn’t it be fun if stores had Halloween-themed shopping bags? Until then—or if you live in a spot that has eliminated plastic shopping bags—this find from Odd Like Us is a must!

I’ve owned this bag since 2018, and it’s one of my favorite totes. Nice and roomy, long, comfy straps. Fill it up with Halloween items on your shopping list OR use it to hold your personal items as you shop. GET IT HERE

Halloween wallet

There is nothing better than a wallet with a great Halloween print, and Em & Sprout is one of my favorite shops for just that! Lindsay’s classic Halloween design had a little bit of everything, but you might also like the ghost, haunted house, or monster prints. GET IT HERE

Coffin wallet

The above wallet print is a bit on the feminine side, so if you’re looking for an option with a more masculine feel…check out this coffin-shaped wallet! It folds out into three pieces and has several slips for cards and cash. GET IT HERE

Halloween decor hunter pin

This one makes you official! Aiden over at Boo Kimi has several items for decor hunters. I own this pin and love how large it is! Add it to your bag, your jacket, or your denim vest. GET IT HERE

Halloween decor hunter keychain

Prefer your swag as a keychain? I clip the pumpkin version of this keychain onto whatever spooky purse I’m carrying during Halloween season. GET IT HERE

Halloween decor hunter patch

Or maybe you want a patch to add to a jacket or bag instead? Aiden’s got those too! GET IT HERE
